The Pudding Pantry

I am always on the lookout for Brunch spots around Nottingham to go with my mum when she comes to visit. I love exploring Nottingham’s local cafes and restaurants that differ from that of a chain branch. I saw a couple of people on my Instagram feed had visited one independent cafe in particular, The Pudding Pantry.

The Pudding Pantry brings together a small team with a desire to provide the kind of food and coffee that will keep consumers coming back. I loved the atmosphere in the cafe, they definitely bring a sense and taste of home baking to create a space where people can go who enjoy good food and great coffee. I really like the fact that they pride themselves on serving up good honest food. I definitely share their excitement of nutritious food.

The cafe is located in Trinity Square, about a 5/10 minute walk from where I’m situated at Nottingham Trent University. It is also just outside of the main shopping location of the Victoria Centre so was very easy to find. It turns out, I have walked past it so many times when exploring Nottingham centre and didn’t even realise it!

Unlike some of the other independent cafes, we were able to book so we were guaranteed to get a table which was ideal. When we were sat in the coffee shop, it had a lovely warm and cosy feel to it. I loved the interior, especially the teal colour palette throughout and the white and wooden table and chairs. The small details added to the appeal in my opinion; the fairy lights, the jars of coffee lined up on the back wall, the picture frames and wooden counter with all of the classic cake stands. I adored how all of their sweet treats are laid out on the counter, making them even more inviting. It is also slightly larger than some of the other cafes I have visited in Nottingham.

I was initially drawn to this cafe because of their desire to source local where possible and always strive to use the freshest ingredients. The three owners’ creativity and excitement in all their food is very evident, adding to the family-feel and welcoming atmosphere.

The Pudding Pantry offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, sweet treats, a kids’ menu and hot drinks. My mum and I went at around 1pm so we picked off the brunch menu. This is mainly because neither of us is really into pancakes, milkshakes or large desserts/puddings.

If you have read any of my food and cafe posts before, it will be no surprise that I opted for the egg option. This was free range scrambled eggs on sourdough toast. I also added smashed avocado to my brunch meal. Eggs and avocado is quite a staple dish for me and it definitely lived up to my expectations, it was very yummy. It was also presented very nicely which added to the appeal for me. It was the perfect ‘Instagram’ picture too!

My mum went for the Superfood Salad that consisted of quinoa, avocado, pomegranate, feta, tender stem broccoli, sweet potato, mixed leaves and topped with seeds; this was equally as delicious.

Overall, we really quite liked The Pudding Pantry and we had a very lovely lunch together. I would recommend the spot to anyone! When I return, I quite fancy trying the smashed avocado & roast cherry tomatoes on sourdough toast, toasted seeds, lemon and chilli. I may even be tempted to add a side of their homemade baked beans.
