Ethos Foods London

I recently went to London for the day with my mum. Just before this trip, I downloaded the Happy Cow app and Ethos was a recommended Vegetarian destination that is located just off Oxford Circus on Eastcastle Street. It was very lucky that earlier that day we booked a table for lunch because when we got there, they were turning people away as all the seats were filled.

I thought it was very clear that Ethos is dedicated to serving delicious and creative meat-free dishes. The restaurant appeals to a large number of people; there were families, business people, couples, friends, etc, all lunching together. I was surprised at how wide ranging their menu is; it is even rich with options for those with special dietary requirements such as vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and refined sugar-free.

With healthy eating being more popular now and more talked about than ever, restaurants that offer more exciting dishes for a plant-based diet are definitely in demand. I am often quite disheartened when I get to a restaurant and the only veggie/vegan option of the menu is a standard salad. Ethos make this way of eating more of a lifestyle choice with their meat-free and all day dining restaurant making healthy eating fun, attractive, delicious and simple.

I also loved the fact that they operate on a pay-by-weight basis; this adds an element of trust between consumer and brand because the customers don’t feel that they are being over charged for their food; this is sometimes the case with one-price restaurants. You are essentially only paying for what you can eat which also helps to reduce food waste. For myself and my mum, this method allowed us maximum choice and flexibility when building our meals exactly as we pleased.

The interior was also interesting and added to the lunch experience. The trees surrounding the tables almost remind consumers of the beauty of the natural world; bringing people back to appreciating nature and makes the restaurant unique and eye-catching. I feel that they are quite an inspiring addition to the space and complement the roots of their brand.

They specialise in dishes from around the world and they were all bursting with flavour and colour. I loved how all of the foods were nourishing and non-processed. Every single dish is made in their restaurant, fresh from scratch, every single day. I appreciate that their ingredients are the finest quality sourced locally where possible.

We both enjoyed having a little bit of almost all of the dishes; we wanted to try a wide selection. Some of the cold options on my plate were turmeric roasted cauliflower, sweet potato salad, butternut squash and the good green salad. Springtime scotch egg, coconut sweet potato fritter, tomato and bean rice, quorn lasagne, sweet potato fries, courgette fritter and lentils with root vegetables. I wasn’t so keen on the smoked butternut dip, however I absolutely loved everything else and both my mum and I devoured it all. I particularly liked the veggie scotch egg, their version of sweet potato fries (they were more like crisps) and the lasagne.

The desert stand was equally as impressive as the main dishes. The treats included, salted caramel hearts, raw flapjack, chocolate brownie, large flavoured meringues, vegan cupcakes, and so many more. I was most tempted by the superfood chocolate truffles; however we had already decided to go to our favourite raw cake place, the Deliciously Ella Deli.

I would highly recommend this vegetarian restaurant whether you are veggie or not. There was so much choice and the food was delicious. I would even go as far as saying that this is my favourite restaurant that I been to. I will definitely be going back; I really want to try Afternoon Tea at Ethos.
