Wildwood Restaurant

At the weekend, me and my friend from home decided to treat ourselves and go out for a meal together. I suggested Wildwood because I had never been before. If you have read any of my food related blogs, you’ll know I’m always interested in trying out new places.

Wildwood is located on King Street and is tucked just off behind Old Market Square and the theatre. They are known for their wide grill selection, but they also provide something for everyone including, classic pizza and pasta dishes, as well as salads and risottos.

We went in the evening and so chose off the main menu. The menu had a good range of appealing dishes and unlike some other chain restaurants, there was quite a varied selection for a vegetarian, plant-based eater like myself.

I quite liked the interior of the restaurant: bricked effect walls, high ceilings, metal beams across the roof with large spotlights handing down above the wooden tables. The space had quite an industrial feel to it in my opinion. I found the atmosphere warm and relaxing, and the surroundings were relaxed so I felt very comfortable.

I opted for the Superfood Quinoa Salad, that consisted of avocado, broccoli, green beans, cucumber, sunflower seeds, peas, feta cheese and herbs with a basil dressing. I was given the opinion of choosing either peri-peri chicken, smoked mackerel or grilled halloumi cheese to go on top. Being veggie, I of course opted for the halloumi which I must say is one of my favourites. It was very yummy and unlike a usual quinoa salad that consists mainly of just leafy greens. It was also presented very nicely on the plate which added to the appeal for me.

My friend went for the beef burger with fries and ketchup on the side. She said that previously she had tried the carbonara from Wildwood and said it tasted quite odd. They apparently cook the spaghetti on the grill so the dish has a smokey taste. However, the burger was much better than this and also looked delicious; she said she very much enjoyed it.

Overall, I really quite liked Wildwood and I am definitely planning on returning to try out more of the menu options. I quite fancy trying the Grilled mushroom and halloumi burger with pesto mayonnaise (can you tell I like halloumi!), or the courgette and spinach penne pasta or the grilled goat’s cheese salad option.
