Lunch at Planet Organic

I had never taken my mum to Planet Organic so while we were spending the day in London, we decided to try somewhere different for lunch and so took a tube ride over to the Planet Organic at Torrington Place.

I love their saying, ‘Eat Well, Live Better’. When I eat nourishing foods, it makes me much more positive. Planet Organic offer the best and widest range of organic foods available, and I really feel that they are very successful in pursuing their mission to promote health in the community and to bring a sense of discovery and adventure into food shopping. It is stores like this that have helped me to find inspiration, excitement and good health from the food I eat.

I really appreciate Planet Organic’s values.

Organic: The first store to be certified by the Soil Association.

Natural: No to processed foods, no to hydrogenated fats and no to GM.

Sustainable: It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.

In the fridges they have sandwiches and pre-made salad boxes and they had a variety of soup, sweet treats, meat boxes and porridge on offer. There was also a massive selection of juice and smoothies and hot drinks.

We went for the make-your-own boxes so we could select exactly what we liked. There was such a great choice and in some ways there was too much choice that it hard to know what to go for. There was hot food on one side and salad selections on the other.

I went for the Organic Plant Box because I was interested in trying the spinach falafels on offer, whereas my mum chose the Veggie Mix & Match Box. We were both able to choose any combination of sides, hot dishes and salads. I selected a combination of sweet potato wedges, carrots, steamed broccoli, vegan lasagne and white bean and avocado smash. My mum had more a mix of their salads and chopped veg. They also had quinoa dishes, rice, curries, other hot dishes, veggies, sides, dressings and dips to choose from.

The portions were massive, the people serving were very generous with filling the dishes right to the top. The ceramic dishes were really cute too! We sat in the seating area at the rear at the store where the back wall is a brick wall aesthetic. It was really quiet and relaxed sitting and eating; I was also really impressed with the filtered water tap too. Quite a few people were sat by themselves eating their lunch; the atmosphere was very accepting and there was a silent mutual respect. It seemed like many locals come here to have that on the go lunch or a coffee break.

I wouldn’t do my regular weekly grocery shopping in somewhere like Planet Organic, but it is great for specific things and one off purchases. It has an amazing selection of everything organic. I also didn’t realise that they offer food prepared to take away, to prepare at home, or ready-to-eat to be purchased at the vegan buffet bar.

I will definitely be going back to Planet Organic on my future trips to London. The main thing that I loved was that I had the opportunity to select all of my favourite combination of foods from the food bar.
