Located in a beautiful old period property, Prana cafe is supported by interior beams and a red decor. The space has a relaxed and warming feel and was quiet which meant you didn’t have to talk over lots of background noise. Their fully vegan menu uses whole foods and organic ingredients, providing food that is healthy and nutritious. I found this spot on the Happy Cow app which I would really encourage any veggies/vegans to download – it shows all plant-based food places and restaurants offering free from options which is very helpful, especially when going to a new place.
I went for the organic falafel and mixed vegetable sandwich which was toasted and warm and packed full of colourful veggies. On the lunchtime we went, a number of hot options were also available: a spelt lasagne, a vegetable bake, a pie and soup of the day. My friend chose the vegetable bake and it was creamy and topped with a grain crust which I tried and enjoyed. I was amazed with the portion size; it came with handmade wedges, roasted vegetables and salad leaves.
They also offer delicious sounding tofu options, baked potatoes, salads and warming bowls. My friend also picked up a beetroot latte for the train home. I have tried other superfood lattes before such as turmeric and matcha but have been too apprehensive about the beetroot. It had a definite earthy taste; however the milk made it not overpowering.
If you are looking for dishes with well-balanced flavours, appetising choices and great service in an impressive space, I would recommend going to Prana Cafe.
