Crumbs & Doilies

My friend recently went to London and visited the Crumbs and Doilies store. She highly recommended it and said I would love the area it was situated in. Cupcake Jemma has also been an inspiration of mine; her cake creations look just divine and effortless, almost too good to slice or bite.

The store is positioned in Kingly Court, down one of the small outer alleyways fairly close to Leicester Square. We struggled to find it at first, but we soon discovered it tucked around the corner. Kingly Court is one of my favourite locations in London. I love how positive it feels and how inviting it is with it’s colourful signs and walls and fairy lights. There seems to be a great lifestyle focus here with a yoga studio and a whole variety of restaurants and cafes. It is such a unique food hub, all located around the vibrant courtyard.

Crumbs and Doilies was a small space, but with its fresh colour palette, made the space feel open. They are known for their amazing cakes, cupcakes and brownies and they definitely didn’t disappoint.

The staff were very understanding and not pushy when mum and I were deliberating over which to choose. The large cakes looked incredible, including salted caramel and velvet volcano and the brownies, the Slutty Brownie and Snickers which deliciously indulgent, yet possibly too sickly. Others on offer were the caramel cornflake crunch brownie, coconut and raspberry and cookie and cream.

I select the Cookie Dough large cupcake and a small bite sized Nutella cupcake to try. I definitely made the right choice with the Cookie Dough cake; it had cookie dough inside, as well as on top and had a delicious vanilla taste throughout. I didn’t enjoy the Nutella one as much, however my mum is a lover of chocolate so much preferred this one; having said this it was still yummy.

For Veganuary, they are offering an entirely vegan cabinet every Wednesday, which I feel is great. What I think also adds to their appeal is the fact that they bake an entirely new menu of sweet treats every day of the week, making it exciting to visit the store to discover the flavours of the day. I would definitely love to go back. What I liked the most was that they offered mini versions of most of their cakes so you could taste a great range of what is on offer.
